- Annotation: The review systematises current data on compostable composite materials based on gluten matrix reinforced with natural fibres of plant and animal origin. The strength, elastic, damping, insulating, and hydrophobic properties of such materials are considered, the key technological approaches to their production (hot pressing, extrusion, injection moulding, 3D-printing) are analysed. Special attention is paid to promising areas of application – from packaging and agriculture to construction and electronics. A separate section is devoted to the use of animal-derived glutens (gelatine, collagen, keratin, whey proteins) as biodegradable matrix for composites.
- Keywords: compostable composites, wheat gluten, animal-derived glutens, natural fibres, biodegradability, strength, damping, hot pressing, extrusion
